The OVERCOMERS food philosophy stresses:
- Food does not need to provoke anxiety, guilt, or extreme negative or positive thinking.
- Food is energy for the body—foods should not be classified as good or bad, “healthy” or “unhealthy”.
- Regular exposure to fear or challenge foods is essential in decreasing the power these foods have over individuals.
- All foods are an important part of our diet. Dessert is just as important to have as fruits and vegetables.
- Eating disorders disturb the body’s hunger and satiety cues. Eating a variety of foods on a regular schedule is important for our bodies to relearn to trust internal hunger and fullness cues.
- Eating “off limits” or fear foods doesn’t automatically lead to weight gain.
- Feeding your body regular meals and snacks is what it is designed for and how it functions at its best.
- Trust your body to utilize a balanced diet filled with a variety of foods. Give yourself permission to eat.
- Eating food should be enjoyable. Eat food you enjoy in moderation.
